Bill Chase is my favorite trumpet player. Imagine what he could have done if he didn't die in that horrible plane crash.

Dang what a monster !!

@trumpetids But it would be a great cutting session with those 4 guys

Chase was the jimi hendrix of trumpet....I had the honor at age 13 to go to a music camp in n.carolina with him as a prof. and play in his student band...could't believe he was taken in the plane crash not long after, always wondered what vibes would come forth had he lived.....a legend

Absolutely not the greatest technical player. He might be the best at high notes. Do you think clifford brown got his recognition with a five year recording span for no reason? Up until about a year ago i could still find a clifford brown c.d, in a barnes and nobles, yet in all my years i have never even seen a bill chase c.d., period. Music taste is one thing, high notes another, but technically clifford, freddie hubbard, and w. marsalis smash this guy.
@ArtsPatron2008 Didn't we go to different schools together? LOL... Guys like Miles, Alpert, Nat Adderly and Armstrong were more stylists than anything. I'd also include Freddie Hubbard and Mangione but they chiefly played fluglehorn, not trumpet. But when it comes to technical mastery of the trumpet you can't beat Bill Chase, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen or Don Ellis.
