Ruth Cave is in Pennsylvania, discovered in the '70s during road reconstruction. About 400' was mapped and Art named the cave after his then girlfriend who complained that he never named a cave after her. A tight constriction was excavated over the years and explorers found another mile of cave passages beyond. Art describes some of the digging efforts and the breakthrough. The cave is now considered one of PA's larger caves also now with a significant bat population. Video was shot in 1991 or 92 and finally converted to digital in 2008. Because of the constrictions and climbs leading to the large section of cave, two days were required to film. A large VHS tape deck, a huge camera, lights, and a 12v car battery was left overnight while other batteries were removed to charge.

  • Where is Ruth Cave located, exactly?

  • Great story, Ruth is 5 miles from me. I wish you metioned the dates of the original discovery and also the new section. I visited both in 1999ish.
