A short film focusing on the beauty that can be found in ordinary things, both natural and man made. This was compiled into a test film to try out the capabilities of my new Canon Vixia HV40.

Camera: Canon Vixia HV40
Editing: Vegas Movie Studio Platinum
(No color correction or other modification was done to the footage in post. This is raw footage that you can get with an out-of-the box HV40.)

Music: "Ripple in the Pond" by Steven Melin

  • how did you uplod to your computer? did you like you the focus wheel thing?

  • @TtheWasttedTalentt To capture from the Vixia HV40 I used a firewire cable. You could also use a tape deck, but I don't have one.

I do like to focus wheel. It's good to have the option of manual focus. The focus wheel is a bit small however, and a lot harder to use than the focus of a dSLR or a professional video camera.

  • did you use 24F feature? or this is 30p shot in 60i?

  • @harryinitiative Actually none of those. This was filmed natively in 1080p at a frame rate of 30p. I did not convert it from 60i, because the Vixia HV40 can actually film directly in 30p.

  • Thanks for doing my music justice ;) I didn't like the shakiness when filming the helicopter and jet though :\

For future reference, be sure to also credit the composer in the description bar (for YouTube videos), in case people don't watch the entire thing.

  • I didn't really like the shakiness that much either, sadly I don't have a fluid tripod so hand-held at a high zoom level was my only option, and obviously introduced quite a bit of shake.

Also, I just added credit to you in the description as well as what was already there. You definitely deserve the acknowledgment.
