Not like monkeys, I think: blacks are just drawn unattractively. For truly cruel racial caricatures, American, British, and Australian cartoons are your best bet.

Cartoons in the first half of the century was crammed with vicious mockery: the U.S., Soviet Russia, and Nazi Germany all indulged. It simply doesn't exist today in the West.

What's odd, then and now, is that the Japanese are all drawn with big, round eyes. I bet that they would have rainbow-colored hair too, if it was in colour.
