  • Even abrogate would seem misleading as even the Traditional Latin Mass was never abrogated. Quo Primum protected that Missal, which has been the same and has had the same reference "Oremus et pro perfidis Judeis..." all the way back to AD 1570. As a collector of altar missals dating back to the 17th Century, There is no change. My priest read from the same Missal he was ordained with in 1942 and never asked to change, even by the 5 popes he served under. An "indult" overkill due to Quo Primum

  • The initial remark was not directed at the Missal of St. Pius V per se, but the Good Friday Liturgy. As for the Missal, consider our video "Reform or Revolt".

  • I can see a modification in the oration for Jewish people. They have ommited the word "pérfidis".

  • The missal in use at this liturgy is the 1962 Missal. Self-explanatory.

  • The name of Missa Praesanctificatorum is still used to talk about the service of Good Friday afeter 1955

  • I heard some are allowed to use the pre-1955 holy week

  • Before 1955, only the priest could receive Holy Communion on Good Friday. After 1955, it was extended to the entire congregation. It is a solemn liturgy of the Passion.

  • Poor choice of words on my part. Sorry about that. Abrogate would likely be a better choice.

  • See the comment from IustitiaPax below, which correctly states that the Mass of the Presanctified was abolished by Pope Pius XII in 1955 for the Roman Rite. As the liturgy in this video was celebrated using the 1962 Roman Missal, it could not properly be called the Mass of the Presanctified.

  • The Mass of the Pre-sanctified, the Missa Praesanctificatorum, was abolished de facto in 1955 in most of the Latin Church (except Benedictines, Ambrosian Rite, Toledo, Dominicans). This is the Good Friday Prayer and Communion service. Veneration of the Cross.

  • You will notice it was not labeled "Mass" - for the very reason you mention.

  • This is not a Mass. It is known as the "Mass of the pre-sanctified" because the hosts used are those consecrated the night before on Holy Thursday.

How solemn and beautiful this is.
