I think the appeal of these movies are a combination of many things. These films seem so "classic" 80s and 90s, and yet so modern/contemporary at the same time...even the 1983 original. Especially the first one from 1983 actually. But even the most recent one from 1997, now 14-15 years old, has a classic feel to it, while also being the most modern of the 4 Griswold adventures. I also think nearly everyone thinks Clark Griswold is based on their own father, there's a lot of recognition here.
