You Are My Sunshine

A classic song from the late 1930s - recorded on my Larrivée OM-03RE, my Tanglewood acoustic bass guitar, and two matching instruments made for me by my great friend and talented musician and luthier, Ian Chisholm: a tenor guitar and a mandolin. So this is a multi-tracked mixdown with a couple of harmony vocals - a sort of tribute to wonderful artists like the Delmore Brothers, the Carter Family, etc.

This song was written by one of our Louisiana Governors, Jimmy Davis.  It is said that he wrote it about one of his race horses named "Sunshine". There are also rumors that he wrote it about one of Louisiana's biggest "pork barrel" projects the "Sunshine River Bridge" -- a toll bridge that when built crossed the Mississippi River from one corn field to another.

I love my Louisiana politics, which really hasn't changed since the days of Huey P. Long.

Interesting story! The complete words of the song - which I know but haven't sung here - are clearly about a fickle lover, but it may well have been inspired by a horse! :-)
