Gifford Pinchot was first Chief of U. S. Forest Service. Grey Towers designed by Richard Morris Hunt was built in 1886.

  • Learned about this place through reading the Big Burn. So interesting how this was built from profits from clear cutting forest and the son, Gifford Pinchot, would then go on to start the Forest Service and protect in the West would had been lost in the East.

  • @brandomatic06 Yes. The house and grounds are maintained as a shrine. Woods surrounding the property make for a good visual and hiking experience.
