Edge gluing deck panels for the 12 foot Ffuture Primitive. This is the original 1997 12 foot version of the FP design.

In the video 8mm thick Paulownia planks are being edge glued into a flat panel which is the deck of the surfboard. To make the fitting of the planks easy they are all sliced from the same piece of timber and laid so that the edges all match. This saves a lot of work and reduces waste. The plank edges are untouched and have the same surface as they had after they left the mill five years ago. A bonus is that the weathered edges of the planks are left intact, this makes a interesting natural brown 'stringer' effect surrounding the glue joins.

Bricks keep the planks in place while the glue cures, no sideways clamping is needed .

to be continued. . .

  • Thanks, the design has something of the katana to it I agree . I'm hooked on that music too, everything with an indentifiable beat seems trite afterwards, I'm sure it's good for the mind too.
