This slice of cheeseball-ness was one of my assignments for my orchestration class.
The assignment was to arrange a "real" piece (not an original composition) for full orchestra with a duration of around 1:30. Our arrangement had to be made using only one dynamic marking at a time for all of the instruments so that we used the strengths and weaknesses of each instrument in order to achieve our goal.
I arranged the Advent hymn "O Come O Come Emmanuel." My arrangement was then sight-read by my conservatory's orchestra while being recorded.
My goal was to make several shifts of color and texture. The piece starts thin, then I added instruments in different groupings one at a time in order to change the color and to create a crescendo through orchestration. Upon reaching the climax the piece then submerges back into a thinness similar to the opening only with a more somber tone. Unfortunately, the stopped horns at the end didn't come out so well in the recording.
omg were playing this in my 7 th grade orchestra class when i first played it i almost cried because it was sooo beautiful!!!

I wish this had continued..I like where you were going. I've been trying to find this Pc in a strong orchestral version but a lot of people seem to keep it light...I like the somberness. I can feel that too about the piece.
