To end her existence is what CC wanted everyone to think her wish was. Lelouch found out that it was to be loved, but without the help of Geass. And so if he promised to grant that wish, that must mean he loved her right?! (or so that's what I think)

See, anti Lelouch/C.C fans have the right to support whatever couple they see fit. But this episode right here is undeniable proof that Lelouch does in fact LOVE C.C to some degree.
He's on the verge of admitting she is something special to him, promises her that he can make her smile and is frantic in trying to convince her that he can grant her true wish. The desperation in his voice only makes the scene that much more valid.
