Wedge bots are what killed the various Robot Wars TV shows. They are too easy to build and armor compared to hammer bots, spin bots, etc, and the requirement that all bots either be unflippable or be able to operate equally well upside down meant that pretty much all competitive bots eventually turned into wedge bots. Also, they are boring.
