From June 15 - 30, a group of 42 students and leaders went into the jungles of Panama on a mission trip.
Every the morning, we did work projects such as clearing jungle hillsides to help with a local school expansion, digging to expand a church ministry area, helped build a dorm at a Christian camp, cement work, cleaning and construction.
In the afternoon, we divided into four different teams and partnered with local churches to lead vacation Bible school (VBS) programs. We held four the first week and four more the second week. We ministered to over 500 children through Bible stories, crafts, object lessons, games and singing. The kids were absolutely ADORABLE and loved playing with us for hours!
For a few days, we went to an indigenous tribe called the Embree. We traveled up a jungle river in the heart of Panama (in canoes!) to reach their palm-leaved huts. There were about 90 Embree natives in the village of Picni. We led a childrens program, helped them build a stairway leading up to their village from the rivers edge, and cleared jungle space so they could expand their village.
On one of our days off, we went to the Panama Canal and saw a ship go through the locks! It was a very cool experience. We also had the experience of going to local churches, and seeing their very diverse forms of worship.
We all came back to the states thankful for toilets that flush, hot showers, comfortable beds, well-rounded meals, and everything we once took for granted.
Hope you enjoy the video! :)
