While we are on the subject of Nobel Peace Prizes:
A 2007 nomination was made for Irena Sendler, who saved 2,500 Jewish children from the Final Solution in occupied Poland. She did not betray them under extreme torture, and narrowly escaped execution, only to be found quadriplegic and unconcious in the woods.
The Prize for that year when to the more celebrated Al Gore, for writing and delivering a powerpoint presentation containing glaring scientific errors.

The day Dina died coincided with the day Brittan was nearly overrun by zombies.

I love the ending of this, when Christopher Hitchens says, "Get a life!" How true! I felt that so strongly back in the first week of September 1997, because I just couldn't understand why people were so upset over someone who they didn't know.

A load of snooty, reactionary tosh. "Pop-Modernity" Christopher Hitchens sounds like he permanently has a carrot stuck up his arse. Cunt.

I found it very awkward around the time of the Princess Diana death event, when people discussed it I remained quiet. I found the woman to be a national embarrassment and her character flaws shone through any beauty that she may have possessed. The word Playgirl, hadn't existed before Princess Diana, before her we had other words for women who slept around. It is a shame that a young mother died in a traffic accident, other than that, the world needn't weep. Christopher Hitchens however rip.

@richardcadbury What a bloody fine comment sir!!

Christopher Hitchens was completely right here. The brain rot that descended over Britain in 1997 really did baffle me. It could all be summed up with the sentiment of ''get a life''.
Personally, I would like us to have a republic. We don't need to insult or patronize ourselves by having an unelected, undemocratic, privileged by birth figurehead to grovel to.
And if we do, then at least allow the British people to decide who becomes our figurehead rather than leave it to the lottery of birth.

Get a life, indeed... well said.

A few months after her death i was in a queue in supersnaps. there was a framed picture of Diana on display, and a guy was asking the girl behind the counter,in a really vomit inducing way, if he and his wife could buy it. She explained that it was only a print and it was not for sale. When they both left (with disappointed hangdog expressions) the whole shop burst into laughter, and the shop assistant said one word that i think summed up the real feelings of the majority of the U.K. "Prick"

over paid sloane ranger. with a slimeball of a brother.
Like I said in Part 1, I missed the beginning of this. I had no idea the programme was coming on, but turned the tv on one night, loved what i saw and decided to record what was left of it. Think I probably have about 75% of the programme.
