This reminds me of the objections to Jose Jiminez routines by Bill Dana. At some point in the 60s he agreed to formally 'bury' Jose. Years later he was resurrected as were Amos and Andy. There was nothing inherently racist or mean-spirited about this type of comedy as Jesse Jackson pointed out.

I think there are some people who just love to be offended no matter what it is. I think they should get a life and stop trying to tell other people how to run there's. or what you should think.

Yes! I agree. I had never heard this version until now and it's sleepy by comparison.

The version on Ring A Ding Ding is faster, happier and in a higher key, and I think better fits the somewhat whimsical nature of the lyric.

I seem to really love the Sinatra songs that are the ones most overlooked by all of the Sinatra "collections".

I love "The Wave", The Rubber Tree Plant Song, And This One!

For some odd reason, I've never been moved too much by the songs he's most famous for. Go figure.

Your mentioning 'The Wave' reminds me that Sid Mark claimed that Sinatra liked to play it for company because he liked the low note. I also like 'This Happy Madness' from that album.
