Cat's are great engines... We have a couple of 16 cylinder cat powered gen-sets where I work... They sound good but those Detroit engines are just legendary :) Love the way they sound...But agreed, Cats start RIGHT up no matter how cold or hot the weather. Lot of times they use block heaters on them when its cold..

Yes they would... The best engine that Detroit ever made, in my opinion, is the 2 stroke diesels...all the way from the little single cylinder all the way up to the gigantic 16V149... Glorious engines... In the town that I live, there are still several school buses in service that have the 6V53... Every time I see one of the older crown buses and I am driving by, I roll my window down just to hear the music of that Detroit 2 stroke... Nothing like them. Freakin Tree huggers.. I swear

@jimbodepot I know one thing about cats and its that they start easier than any other big diesel engine Ive seen no matter the weather.

@cumminsfan ahh 3208 cats they smoke the most even when they run good from the ones Ive seen anyways. still cant beat that tap key start up on a frezzing day.

I really do like that 2-stroke sound - a lot more attractive than the Hun Diesel = 4 stroke. Still, doesn't come close to petrol.
