The Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) emerged out of the lessons learnt by SEWA, in her 30 years of existence, and the experiences of similar organizations in South Asian and African countries. Trade Facilitation Centre (STFC) is incorporated as a not-for-profit Company. This unique business model for poverty alleviation operates via a unique principle whereby the company will be owned by the disaster-affected artisans themselves. This is an innovative and effective mechanism for providing livelihood security to marginalised workers through the creation of a business entity, a notion that could easily be deployed across the globe as a blueprint for poverty reduction.
