  • Lets be honest, the only reason they swept was because poor Ito injured herself badly a couple of times in a row and was barely able to stand out let alone skate. In fact none of the 3 Americans skated well enough to beat a normal Ito though Kristi came closest. Nancy's usual so so long program would have been thrashed by a healthy Ito.

  • Well......these were the girls that showed up that year.......maybe there will be a Japanese sweep at some point soon........best wishes

  • @grafgirl27 Nancy was so boring. Sorry about her leg. I was just a boring routine. I love Tanya Harding still.

  • @bdbj77 As do many others......

  • Ah the 90s. Where US women USE to dominate women's figure skating. 1st & 3rd in 90, Sweep in 91, 1st & 2nd in 92, Nothing for 2 years, 3rd in 95, 1st in 96, 1 & 2nd in 97, 1st in 98, 2nd in 99.

Now we can BARELY get into the top 10 at worlds....

  • It will be interesting to see if the second batch of Japanese skaters holds up the current high level standard....I am getting a bit tired of them all.....Alyssa and Rachael are every bit the skater these girls were....and I am satisfied to watch them, no matter how they come out. It's the stinky scoring system that's doing in a lot of people.....How tiresome it is!!1 6.0 or NO for YOU......2010!!! UGH!!!! best wishes Your gymnastic post is a first class scream!!!! lol

  • I love Midori too, and she was totally screwed out of winning her 2nd World title in 1990. However she sucked big time at this competition and the judges correctly placed her off the podium inspite of her huge name. What an incredible achievement by the U.S women, a sweep at the Worlds. It is amazing to think the U.S has had many incredible 3 women teams and yet this was the only time they swept. It shows how incredibly hard it is to do at the World level, and is a credit to these 3 women.

  • Kristi Yamaguchi - often overshaddowed by the Kerrigan - Harding scandal. She has a better skating record than either of them, a worthy world and olympic champion.

  • Yes, Ito was injured but, to say Kristi came the "closest" to beating her. Kristi beat her on several occasions. Yes, the media was getting to Ito at the Olympics but, the media was all over Kristi too. Kristi was a better jumper --- Midori was a great jumper.

  • @grafgirl27 Oh its true that if you are healthy and can do the jumps, then it is your title to loose. But Ito was not healthy here, and the media was getting to her. We can say "Could Have, Would Have, SHOULD HAVE...." a thousand times, but when you get down to the black and white of it, Ito skated badly here. Whether thru pressure or injury it was not her championships.

  • Blame it on 2002 and this awful CoP's.

They all HAVE to do the same thing, jumps, spirals that are sky high, sit spins that start pratically on the ice and then end up in a vertical split. And those beige skates! Ugh!!! Call me a tradionalist but I prefer white. The beige looks awful. 2002 was when it all fell apart and hasn't been the same since. Thank you Jamie and David.

  • Not many would, or could, disagree with that!! And still skating....as well as ever!!! thanks for commenting! best wishes
