the irish guards are a member of the guards division in the british army, consisting of the household cavalry, the grenedier, coldstream, scots, irish and welsh regiments of footguards. and the susat sight is useless in the jungle as contacts are at such close range, and it also has a bad habit of steaming up in a tropical enviroment. i know this as i am an ex guardsman.
@NatInAcid - partly, however SA80 are incredibly heavy weapons and slings are not often used in the jungle as contacts typically occur at 5-10 metres, and adding a SUSAT would add something like a further 2.4 kg to the weapons weight - far too heavy to be functional in such a testing environement.
@dubya27 NO the Irish Guards are Ireland's army Britain only controls the north the entire country of Ireland is not at war with the Brits just the IRA.
Presumably you had SA80s when you were there. I was wondering why they don't have SUSATs fitted. Is it because the ground is so dense an optical sight would be useless? It was the only idea i could come up with..
do all irish guards do this?
