Another experiment confirming that room lighting is well enough to cause a "psi-wheel" to turn. An ordinary 40W lamp about 1.5m from the bowl is enough for continuous spinning if the wheel is suitable.

Glass stops heat exchange via air flow, but it doesn't stop much of the visible light (that's why you can see through it). The desk absorbs some of the radiated light and heats up. Heated air at the surface moves upwards and a circulation pattern forms.

  • Unfortunately, by relying on a propeller, you ruined the worth of any comparison with the psi wheel design. A propellor, by design, achieves uni-directiional movement regardless of what direction the force comes from, whereas the pyramid shape of the psi wheel is resistant to uni-directional movement, except when the force hits only one side of the wheel. I have never been able to get a psi wheel to move using light.

  • @darrylsloan As you know from the previous video, I'm not relying on a propeller. The effect appears on a pyramid-shaped wheel too. Although the effect of convection isn't as predictable with it, you can achieve continuous uni-directional spinning which I did. This isn't a comparison but an experiment to further establish that air convection is causing the movement and normal room lightning suffices.
