The Blackberry Crumble Tumble

Music: Never Rests, Never Stops, Never Sleeps by Misty's Big Adventure. It's the second time I've used it for one of these... I'm a big fan of theirs.

For what it's worth, I'm touring the UK with a stand up show in August/September 2009 and I'm doing it by bike. Not that the show is about the journey... it isn't. I'm also now doing a non-cycling tour extension early next year that allows me to reach cities not on the original route. After Saturday's ride, we decided to return to pick blackberries. I only filmed it because it was easier to keep the camera mounted on the helmet than remove it after testing it the day before. Sort of glad I did.

The tumble looks far less dramatic than it felt at the time. I broke my fall with my hands. It was that or my chin. Gloves are torn up a bit - good job I was wearing them. I was wearing a helmet - it wasn't pressed into use. I didn't have the full range of movement in my thumbs yesterday as the heels on both palms swelled up... but a quick visit to A&E confirmed no broken bones. Just bruised hands. And pride.

I have a more serious bike which I wasn't riding so at least I wasn't clipped into the pedals. Not that I think it would have made a great deal of difference.

Both bike and camera appear to be unharmed. So I guess the camera passes another test.

Good blackberry and apple crumble though.

I'd hoped for something more dramatic, perhaps with a slow motion, drawn out, "Nnnnnnooooooooooooooo!" but I think that says more about my love of a good bike crash (I've scars and everything) than it does about your slip. Good that it happened this side of London to Brighton rather than before, at least. Crumble looked tip-top. Good work. Thanks for sharing; cool tune too :)

my wheel has slid in that very same place a while back - the metal flooring under the bridge gets slippery in wet weather.

Proves what I've always said, too much exercise is really bad for you, the blackberry crumble on the other hand....
