  • Formally and with regard to brilliance and virtuosity, this piece is a herald of Scarlatti sonatas, as it was written in 1728, five years before the neapolitan began issuing his pieces. The idea of the three hands due to the hand-crossing exploration of all the keyboard registers is at once original and highly intelligent! Rameau was really a first rate genius!

  • perhaps it's just my imagination, but the little motive first heard at 0:30-0:43 sounds vaguely operatic to me -- a bit reminiscent of "les sauvages".
