@badcloud56 Classical composer's had no pretentions about what they were composing. The same about literary masters like Charles Dickens. If Dickens was alive today he would be writing for " Soaps" on TV, and Bruckner would be numero uno for film scores. All I am doing is telling you where Zimmer etc got their inspiration. If 600 million want to listen to Justin Bieber, good for them. The shame is that the 2million that think Zimmer is original have probably never heard of Bruckner.

it never ceases to astonish me how the Berlin Phil manages to attract not only the best wind players but also the hottest

@iduefoscari it makes me sad that you could put film music side by side in comparison with classical music. Music which serves films vs music which serves nothing but itself? Furthermore, 2 million hits for the Da Vinci Soundtrack? Justin Bieber's "Baby" has over 600 million. What does that tell you about making a point about quality based on popularity?

@badcloud56 Sir- Your definition of Bruckner is old hat. This sample from the Bruckner 6 is absolutely original.I reiterate it is the foundation of so many modern filmscore music. You ask Hans Zimmer,Maurice Jarre,John Williams if they think that all Bruckner sounds the same. I will give you one more example . There are over 2 million hits on You Tube for Zimmers ending of The Da Vinci Code.Listen to the section after the reciptulation of the chorale in the fourth movement of Bruckners Ninth.

Blomstedt has always tried to emulate his childhood conducting hero when he's on stage - Furtwangler.

God, you've heard one Bruckner symphony, you've heard them all
-
@iduefoscari Both Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago are scored by Maurice Jarre. Concidence? :P
