I used to live on the other side of the Snowy Range in Saratoga in the 1960s, and have fond memories of the UP running on the Encampment Branch- by then they went no further south that Saratoga switching out the large lumber mill. Back then, the power was an Alco RSC2. Last time I was in Saratoga it was 2005, and WYCO owned the line, but the mill was closed. Nowadays, the former "Slow & Easy" (Saratoga & Encampment Valley) is history, taken up by A&K.
