It seems like its been ages since I've been here. If you didn't know, Nerska/Lemoyne is where the BRC main crosses the BNSF Transcon and CN Joliet Subdivision with both lines being on either side of I-55. A great variety of traffic and power passes through here making this location one of my favorites.

8:28AM-
Getting up to an early start as usual, I got there just in time to catch a light power move going North on the Belt bound for Cicero.
BNSF GP50 #3148
BNSF ES44DC #7841
BNSF ES44DC #7839
CSXT AC4400CW #491

8:34AM-
After the light power went North, a Westbound container train on the BNSF Transcon goes West over the diamonds with a ton of horsepower. This train will increase in length once it gets to Willow Springs.

8:42AM-
An NS runthrough heads East to Corwith Yard.
NS C40-9W #9665
NS C40-8W #8448

9:21AM-
After leading a CP freight down the belt, the power, consisting of three gray rent-a-wrecks returns North.
CITX SD40-2 #3090
CITX SD40-2 #3102
CITX SD40-2 #3079

9:53AM-
A unit ethanol train moves North to the UP Geneva Subdivision.
UP SD70M #4800

9:54AM-
Train 300, the first Amtrak Lincoln Service Northbound, meets 301 at the diamonds.
NPCU #90215
P42DC #37

10:07AM-
Now on BNSF's Nerska side of the junction, we see a container intermodal rocket West with mundane power.
BNSF ES44DC #7665
BNSF C44-9W #4106
BNSF C44-9W #5183
BNSF C44-9W #4008

10:12-
Another container intermodal just minutes away from it's destination slows as it approaches Corwith interlocking.
BNSF C44-9W #4825
BNSF C44-9W #4816

1:08PM-
After stopping by Ash Street for a bit, we return to Nerska Lemoyne (on the other side of the tracks) to see some CSX light power going North.
CSXT SD70MAC #4778
CSXT ES40DC #5392

1:24PM-
A freight that came off the NS somewhere South of here goes North possibly to the CP.
NS C40-9W #9876
NS C40-9W #8934

1:30PM-
After waiting for traffic to clear on the BRC, Northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle 22 throttles up giving quite a show with #162's horn.

2:05PM-
A train that will become M-CNIKCK once it reaches Joliet rolls over the diamonds.
CN SD75I #5712
CN SD70M-2 #8841

2:10PM-
Running alongside the freight at speed, Amtrak's Texas Eagle 21 kicks up dust and debris as it heads South.
P42DC #189

2:13PM-
The J303 BRC job's power dropped it's train further South and prepares to run around it so it can switch the cars out at a local industry. They made it up to the connector then backed down the lightly used industry lead.
BRC MP15DC #533

2:34PM-
Good light is here and things begin to get very interesting. We moved South to Archer Avenue to catch a transfer with cool power going by. This train will take the 59 St Branch just South of Archer to get to West Clearing.
GTW GP38-2 #4932
CN SD40-2W #5331

2:41PM-
We decided to catch this cool little job again once it got on the 59th Street Branch at the 55th Street crossing. Over here, it's a quiet zone.

3:21PM-
Back at Archer Avenue, we see a container intermodal with an NS leader go South.
NS C40-9W #9156
UP SD70M #4146

3:45PM-
A really nice prize was this transfer from Bensenville with a CP SD40-2 in "Candy Stripes." A SOO 60 and AC44 trail out on this freight also bound for the 59 Line.
CP SD40-2 #6021
SOO SD60 #6039

  • I don't think I've ever seen 10 locomotives on one freight!

  • I just found this great video here Boxcar Frank. Great filming as always! You should put all your Chicago Series on a few DVD's with narration, plus a side booklet with a map of the Chicago rail lines, engine ID's and unit numbers. It would not only be great to have & watch on the large TV screen with full engine & train audio booming. But it would be a historical record of the Chicago rail scene at this time! I would pay $40 for a DVD & Booklet like that. Thanks for the video's Boxcar.

  • oh thx

  • on 0:10

  • hey r those two new engines?! awesome are they sd40s or something?

  • You cannot deny CP SD40-2s..

There is no other locomotive around that has that awesome sound!

    Chicago turns into Calgary :)

  • How did you gain access to this junction?

  • awesome video Frank!!
