Purple cells work same way as all other cells, but they color any other cells they touch. Watch these 6 Gosper Glider Guns (also known as GGGs!) get destroyed by their own offspring!
My observations show that in any toroidal universe GGG is fated to be destroyed. If the universe is not very populated, more chances GGG will be destroyed by its own offspring, if the universe is full of other cells, the glider stream very often bumps into something, creates active life which eventually reaches up along the glider stream to the gun and destroys it.
It is always rewarding to put a GGG in the middle of the soup and see for how long it survives. In my Galaxies app if you put a purple GGG, you can see how it colors other cells and thus understand the fate of its offspring and how much territory it obtained.
