I think they worked that out for themselves, since they stopped even showing the external shot after a while. There was also an alternative first scene.

You can understand why it's a black and white PIF. I've wondered though why they didn't show the shot where, they drive past the house where the fire burned in colour to illustrate how much external damage there was?
