This is just some short footage demoing Tug my little puppies left finish as well as Splash my border collies Hot Dog retrieve. I taught this by just getting her to retrieve other things and then adding in the hot dog, but most dogs will actually eat the hot dog on the way back. To learn an awesome technique for the hot dog retrieve check out youtube user : supernaturalbc2009
She has a complete fool proof tutorial on it.

  • that is AWESOME! love Tug's flying! did you ask him to do that or was that just his own little style? and im very impressed with the hot dog trick!!

  • @agkshibby He used to jump quite a lot! Still does a bit when really excited. SO I thought I would turn it into a trick, before I extinguished it... Initially I trained the left finish with the rear end awareness exercise and then just encouraged him with a lure to jump up as he turned.

  • I started with the clicker training, but I def. have to slow it down (my dog gets stressed easily). It takes a while to change training habits from "normal" to clicker training, doesn't it? I'm just scared that we both get frustrated if it doesn't work out all the time.

Anyway, watching your videos and the relationship you have with your dogs - it's so great to watch.

  • @Juliexo06 Do you mean stressed as getting over excited about the food, or shutting down and not wanting to do anything for you? For excitement you could sit with food and a clicker and watch tv, and when the dog has given up stressing about the food and goes and lays down (or is not thinking about the food- looking calm) CLICK and give a treat, and then ignore the dog until the same thing happens (you will be building a calm dog around food)

  • @Juliexo06 If it is because your dog shuts down. DON"T work on obedience with your dog- the dog will sense your urgency if he gets it wrong. Try some tricks that are fun, and if your dog doesn't learn them you can say "oh well!" I would def. play 101 things to do with a box, and click EVERY muscle movement of your dog, every step they take at first! You could teach "touch". You could in the house or yard run away from the dog and click them for following and then drop a treat, then run off...

  • @Juliexo06 and relax! Take it easy, offer calming signals! they help to calm yourself down too.

  • Genial !!

  • Tug sneezing at 0:19 and 0:21 just made me grin. My papillon does this when we're working on something that includes a clicker :)

  • can't wait for your tutorial on the barrier thing xD

  • you're great! How can you teach left finish? Do you have a video of it?

  • Who the heck would give this a thumbs down?

  • Awesome :) I love the get the hot dog trick! Im gunna teach that to my liberty right now

  • Wow, Tug is doing so well and so unbelievably adorable. You are such a terrific trainer. Splash is awesome, I love Splash! Great hot dog retrieve!

  • LOVE your videos! Such a great reminder of how much one can accomplish it they stick to it. Your advice to Juliexo06 was super great too... Our 2.5 year old (rescue, been with us since Aug 09) tends to shut down if training is planned or 'obvious'. I keep sessions super short (1-2 mins) or try to sneak things in here and there when we are at the park or otherwise relaxed and happy.
