I just recently replaced the "universal" hinges on a less-than-2-year-old Igloo Marine cooler with a pair that I harvested from an otherwise identical 5 year old cooler. I was pissed that the hinges on the new cooler broke so soon until I looked at them and realized that they're designed to fail! The newer hinges are bits of horizontally creased plastic that work by bending back and forth along the crease. Within a short time, no surprise, they break, and Igloo gets to sell u replacements. Boo!
