It's been a very long time since I formally studied them, but if I remember correctly, Aristotle wasn't very concerned with the inner life of the mind, or motivation. He was more concerned with action or presence. What happens in your mind is largely irrelevant. I've heard it summarized by saying, "What is, is." A chair is a chair because it functions as a chair. Aristotle is often thought of as the father of science for this reason. Plato on the other hand was more mystical and wishy-washy (eg. his shadows on the wall of a cavern illustration to explain the concept of the soul and reality.)
