J.P. Patches first came on the air with his children's TV program on Channel 7 in Seattle on February 10, 1958. Take a tour of the now mostly forgotten original KIRO TV studios atop Queen Anne Hill with Chris Wedes (who starred as J.P. for more than 23 years). Produced by Feliks Banel for HistoryMediaHistory.

I think that KIRO needs to set aside some of their news building for a replica of J.P. Patches old set and let people tour it. For all Chris Wedes and Bob Newman did for KIRO Television and the children of the Northwest..this would be a great honor to them. Thank you Chris and Bob for the great childhood memories. God Bless you both.

- Amen to your comments! We were very spoiled. J.P. will ALWAYS be my favorite...too bad kids do not have a show like his anymore. LOVED him and Gertrude, etc! : ) I still would watch his show when I was home sick in high school, and it was still just as funny. Truly did appeal to all ages, it killed me when they'd crack up or when he interacted with "Mr. Announcer Man".
Love you, Mr. Wedes! Once a Patches Pal, always a Patches Pal! : )

The funniest part was "The Hole". Kids were afraid to leave because of it. I wonder if the falling scream sound effect was audible to the guests departing the set, or if it went directly into broadcast. If the former, & the kids heard it, did any of the kids wonder why they weren't falling?

I loved JP Patches. My favourite was Boris S. Wart, the second meanest man in the world! Lots of good times with JP in the late 60's. I agree with Jim, build a replica set, and have tours.
