there's no enough light in my current place. the video is too dark. can you still see my right hand? how's my bowing technique now?

maskumambang is a javanese poetry that is composed with slendro pentatonic scale. more about slendro here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slendro . more about maskumambang and other poetry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javanese_poetry

well, i just tried to explore violin for non-conventional scales, and slendro is an example.

  • PART THREE!

KEEP ON TRAINING! Or you stopped?

  • hey! thanks for all the comments!

i'm stopping training now coz i'm focusing more on other musical activities. i think i should start a real lessons with a teacher ^^

  • curve that pinky!

I can't quite tell if your bow is still moving around.. but if you still need some tips.. in the beginning my teacher put straws in the F holes and I was supposed to bow between the bridge and the straws.

    - Also another tip. The upper part of your arm (the part from the elbow to your shoulder)is supposed to be still & not moving from left to right. It usually just changes height for the different strings. So the tip is to play with the upper part of your arm to the wall.

  • ok, i'll take care of the pinky :) -- it's because a teaching video showed that the pinky is supposed to take the weight and do the balancing.

the upper right arm is supposed to be still? ok. i'll try. yes it's true that it changes height for different strings. thanks for your tips!

  • one bowing tip to create a beautiful full sound it to put ALL your weight on your index finger instead of your pinky. It's takes a while to get it right. I'm still working on mine.

Good Luck. Keep up the good work

  • thanks for this one more tip!

    i'll try!

  • PART TWO!

Don't put much pressure with the bow. You must learn how to move the left elbow. Move it front and back, front and back, you'll note when it's in front the G-string is easier to give a note with left hand, and when it's back you can put the finger easily in the E-string. hmm... let me see.

Well someday I'll film a little of what I know and show to you how i learned. But not now cuz' is 4:32 a.m in Brazil. Yeah I'm Brazilian. Or i will get some videos of how to get the bow ...

  • (Like you play violin i speak english, we are learning)

Do not put the palm of your hand in contact with te neck... you should get the neck with the toe (the fat one finger) and the start of the second finger (the finger we use to spot things) but before the proximal phalanx, AND JUST THESE PARTS. Your right Pinky IS TOO TENSE! All the fingers of the right hand must be curved, and not with tension, it's warmfull (dangerous?).

  • hi, thanks for your comment!

yes, in fact rebab should be the suitable one, as it's a javanese string instrument. but as i just started with violin, i'm on the way of trying my fret-less feeling..

    is the melody correctly played? ^^;

  • HI,

Try to use Rebab instead of Violin. Its sound is better for Maskumambang.

From what I was hearing on your maskumbang violin, I felt that you have a good feeling "rasa" -an important factor for good Rebab player-.
