Here is a simple way to create a double door in Minecraft, that works with only one Redstone torch and two Redstone pieces and two pressure plates.

1. Dig a hole 6 blocks long and 2 blocks wide and 2 blocks deep.
2. Put a block in the middle left at the ground.
3. Put a Redstone torch at the right side of that block
4. Put one piece of redstone "above" and "below" that block
5. Put the two doors in that door frame from the outside
6. Put the pressure plate at the left side from outside, and on the right side from inside of that double door

Done :)

  • Great, a door with pressure plates on both sides so the mobs can wander in and out as well ;) Okay, one could put some work into replacing it on one side against a button, but that kills the simplicity again (since you need to put a redstone trail 'down' to the rest)

  • @Phelan42 Ah yes :) They're supposed to wander in and out as they want. Don't you want to have a precious creeper in your living room? ... Just kidding ;) If you want to use it in other modes than peaceful, then you sure have to replace the outside pressure plate by a button (or simply don't use a pressure plate there and open the door manually).
