Yeah but if you look at the way Columbus treated the Native Americans, you see a really depressing and sad example of imperialism. That was the era of major exploitation of colonies by England, France, Portugal, the Dutch too. Check the first chapter of Howard Zinn's People History of the United States.
it was the americans that treated natives that way. english, dutch whoever were no longer their origional nationalilties, because they moved to the us to be american, and other reasons. no good saying the reduction of native americans was the fault of England, France, Portugal and the Dutch.
