The lunar eclipse on December 21, 2010. It was 2 in the morning and 26 degrees outside plus my tripod broke right before the full eclipse but despite all of that it was an amazing experience. The last half dozen or so astrological events have been cloud covered blocking my view but this night was as clear as you can get. Before the event began it was so bright out you didn't need a flashlight to move around or even find small buttons and other camera stuff.
When the moon was fully covered by Earth's shadow the moon turned burnt orange and then blacked out completely making visible stars I have never seen from my house before. Also viewed a few shooting stars but failed to capture any on video.
