In the wake of the weekend attacks, armed personnel have been sent to popular places like shopping malls, railway stations and places of worship. West Bengal police have also set up checkpoints on key roads.
The North Bengal and Assam police are also keeping a tight watch on the India-Bangladesh border region.
[Kunda Lal Tamta, Inspector General, North Bengal Police]:
"We have spoken to our counterparts in Assam and alerted them to keep a strict vigil on the border areas. Apart from that Barobisha, Basirhat, Alipurduar and the adjacent areas are also under a strict vigil."
The chief of Assam state is blaming the United Liberation Front of Asom for the attack.
