Scholarships have been awarded to the children of the war heroes who had laid down their lives or who have been rendered disabled.

The scholarship awarding ceremony was held at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. It was organized by the Ministry of Defence and Bank of Ceylon. More than 100 children were awarded scholarships in the first phase. Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said the Government has adopted maximum measures for the welfare of the families of the war heroes.
Naduni Harshani Manchanayake a daughter of a war hero who has made the supreme sacrifice also delivered a speech.

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, President of Bank of Ceylon Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe, President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence Ministry Ayoma Rajapaksa and Presidents of other Seva Vanitha Units of the Security forces were among those present..
