Navy Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Robert J. Reeves
Died August 6, 2011 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom

32, of Shreveport, La.; assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team; died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down.

The Louisiana Patriot Guard Riders joined the community to pay tribute to Chief Petty Officer Robert Reeves. The Navy SEAL from Shreveport was one of 30 U.S. servicemen killed when insurgents shot down the U.S. Army Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan.

A memorial for Reeves was scheduled for this Saturday, August 13th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Cathedral Church in Shreveport. The Patriot Riders lined the church walkways with American flags and fellow patriots.

CPO Reeves graduated from Caddo Magnet High in 1997 and attended LSU for a year before joining the Navy. He served as a member of the Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

His good friend, high school classmate and fellow Navy SEAL, Jonas Kelsall, also died in that helicopter crash.

  • RIP Robert J. Reeves. When I stood to honor CWO4 David Carter I also stood in honor of your service. All of the Patriot Guard Riders salute your service. You are a liberator of the oppressed which makes you the noblest of men. We will never forget you and your families sacrifice for our country. Our Great Nation stands on the shoulders of hero's such as you Rob. Your inspiration to our country is large and it will do great things for your brothers in arms. Thank you and your family.
