Interesting but defenitely not the kind of game show you see very often. Only the japanese can get ideas like this. This stuff can seriously make you crack up sometimes.
The whole point of this game is to see who'll win. The beetle(s) or that guy? I'm betting my money on the beetles.

This is a tug of war game, I think the aim of the game is to stop the beetles from getting past the red line. He has to pull as many beetles he can pass the 'dotted' line.

i think they are rhino beetles. Pretty much the strongest beetle there is and the feet have grippy like barbs. i think the grey floor is carpet which the beetles will grip to so the guy simply can't lift them up without the pain
