When is your baby ready for solid foods? There's no single answer for every baby, but around 6 months most babies are ready to start solid foods. However, even when your baby is eating solid foods you should continue to breastfeed since breast milk is a vital part of your baby's diet for at least the first year or two.
In this baby gooroo video with breastfeeding expert Amy Spangler, new moms and dads talk about when they started feeding their babies solid foods and the importance of continuing to breastfeed for at least the first year and beyond.

First of all the gaps in the intestines don't close until 6 months, so even if they're showing other signs of readiness, you should wait. Also, you should always nurse before feeding solids. Breast milk is higher in nutrients and calories than solids.
