@smeltriver09 That is exactly what Lockheed and other contractors want you (and the public) to think!! Ares1 with Orion (the crew vehicle) can NOT leave LEO either. It takes another totally different rocket (Ares5) to dock and take it out of LEO. The Dragon capsule in Falcon9 is actually better suited in to do this because it has better heat shielding and the same pressurized area. To take the rocket out of orbit we have Delta IV heavy, Falcon 9 heavy, and Atlas V HLV.
@ti994apc You sir, are tremendously mistaken!! It is the space entrepreneurs, who are the real hacks!! The commercial space vehicles will ONLY be designed for Low Earth Orbit, and nothing more! Without the ISS, commercial space has NO mission NOR a reason to be. And for this flimsy reason, the ISS will never be allowed to end: they will replace it come 2020 with an ISS-2, and after that an ISS-3. Then, boys, the U.S. will never get out of LEO.
In 2010 Constellation was a HORRIBLE way to go back to the moon. They should have left the manned aspect to space X or the Atlas V. Rather, NASA waisted time and resources on Ares1 which was a huge mistake. If they wanted to use parts of a vehicle they should have used Titan II. It was reliable, safe, and cost effective. Using Space X, you can have 25 launches for the price of one Shuttle/AresI. I think they can assemble a Moon/Mars vehicle in 25 launches.
Barack Obama demolished NASA!! He destroyed our best chance for getting out of Low Earth Orbit in the next 15 years, and we in the space interest community must never forget that, when we cast our votes in 2012! A manned Lunar Return will be ESSENTIAL as the prime intermediate goal of NASA, if we are ever going to end this stupid forty-years-and-counting ferris wheeling around the Earth.
@Armigo91 That was my point.

@Nidhogg13
You dont need space in space, cause your already in space lmao
I dont thhink you require alot of room if your weightlessness.

You have a lot more volume in a weightless environment. That doesn't apply to 1/6th gravity on the moon.
