At the most basic level, dharma means your natural activity or propensity. Animals have their own dharma, to live selfishly, accordin to their instincts. Gods have their own dharma, to help others. As human beings we have a choice. We can either live like animals fulfilling our baser desires or live like gods expressing our spiritual nature.
