And hello again, for part 6 of Upload Week. Today's piece is a bit of a jump ahead and was actually created before tomorrow's upload. While I've generally been trying to stick to chronological order, I felt tomorrow's piece would be a much stronger ending.
"Leaving Dry Dock" was a piece I composed in early October of 2010. This was a relatively short exercise in attempting to almost exclusively use a well-developed string section for an entire piece.
This is also the first piece I've uploaded on YouTube that feature's EastWest's Hollywood Strings. While I'm not going to say much about them now, I will say Hollywood Strings is a fantastic (albeit resource intensive) strings library. I still haven't quite mastered using the library yet, and I really don't think this piece shows the level of realism they can achieve. (If you want to see some impressive work with virtual instruments, I would recommend listening to some of the Hollywood Strings demos on Sounds Online: http://www.soundsonline.com/Hollywood-Strings ).
Anyways, I hope you enjoy.
