This is a new RCI 3900HP 10 Meter Radio that I changed the final section to use a 2SC2290 transistor.
This is a video of the power that I got from this radio.

  • But how does it sound on SSB?????? If thats a class C amp it will sound like poo on SSB.

  • Hello, first thanks for doing these videos.

    But I'm confused, a 50w element on the x5 setting is a 500w scale, shouldn't that be a 250w scale ?

Please explain this as I'm looking to ad the pep mod to my bird 43, thanks.

  • Over 200w peak? Yeah, maybe for 2 seconds in class F!

  • You may have these unsuspecting youngsters falling for this but it's clearly BS. Now if you have a peak reading board installed in that Bird it may just show that kind of power but then it would only be about 100 watts of true average power.....

  • @kb1nyd

  • Heat might be a problem. A couple of small fans might help...

  • I have a Cobra 25GTL with a mosfet final from 1987, used about 24 years in all kinds off weather and in many vehicles, made all kinds of DX conacts and of course 102" whip. 35 BIG WATTS!!!!!!........LOL

  • I own the first 2290 mod Galaxy DX 959 and have used it in the winter, spring and summer. Doing relly well with my DX contacts made from the old truck!

  • Won't that be the 250 watts top scale???

  • What size Fuze in the power cord? Bet its pretty hefty.
