Government runs on fear, and every politician, regardless of party, feeds upon that fear to pass whatever intrusive legislation they want. Every law, regulation, and act is created to “protect” us from some fear—terrorism, drugs, global warming, poverty, poisoned food, etc. Old Ben said it best: “Those who trade liberty for security deserve neither.”
