@polonium9 Of course radium is pretty much radioactive. Do you know why it was discovered? Because the waste stones, from which uranium already was seperatet, where more radioactive than the pure uranium. And metallic radium does not glow under uv light. the thing glowing in radium watches is the zinc sulphide! zinc sulphide glows, when it is hit by an uv light photon or by radiation. thats the reason why it is in those old clocks.

@polonium9 red uranium glazed dishes dont light up under uv light, neither thorium in gas mantels does ist. americium of course not- as well as radium. BUT when you put a radium watch unter uc light, it will light up because of the zinc sulphide powder mixed with radium.

there is no uv light there so how would you know?

then if its not why did it say radium dish right on the sign? it said it has some uranium in it.
