The exiled government of the Himalayan region says 80 people have been killed in clashes between armed Chinese police and Tibetans demonstrating against Beijing's rule.

"Whether intentionally or unintentionally, somewhere cultural genocide is taking place" - the Dalai LamaChina has said at least ten "innocent civilians" died, most of them in fires lit by rioters in the capital Lhasa.

Speaking from his headquarters at Dharamsala in northern India, the Dalai Lama, regarded by Buddhist Tibetans as their spiritual leader, said: "Whether Chinese government admits or not, there is a problem.

"The problem is the nation with ancient cultural heritage is actually facing serious dangers - whether as a Tibetan nation, ancient nation with ancient cultural heritage, is actually dying.

"And then also, whether intentionally or unintentionally, somewhere cultural genocide is taking place".

Chinese forces have defended the crackdown, saying police acted lawfully to stop rioting after a week of demonstrations led by Buddhist monks spilled over into violence.

  • STOP THE VIOLENCE the world is watching you!!!!!!!

  • Young Tibetan boys were regularly taken from their families and brought into the monasteries to be trained as monks. Once there, they became bonded for life. Tashì-Tsering, a monk, reports that it was common practice for peasant children to be sexually mistreated in the monasteries. He himself was a victim of repeated childhood rape not long after he was taken into the monastery at age nine.

  • Yes...gay relationship is not considered as a sin in Tibetan Buddhism. Of course it is not considered as an honour neither.

But gay relationship is popular among monks in Tibetan monasteries. Sometimes it is even encouraged and supported by senior monks, as it proves that the involved monks are not interested in women, which is against Tibetan budhhism.

  • wow I didn't know that- Where did you get this?

  • Dalai Lama = Shameless Liar

Only idiots believe what he says.

In Tibet, Religion, Lanuage, Folks & Antiques are ALL preserved well. Only Serf System is completely abolished. As a Cruel Slave Owner, what Dalai Lama wants is exploiting serfs.

    What is Cultural Genocide?

Let see American Indian under the European Colonism. Europeans are extremely hypocritical, an evil heart veiled behind a civilized face. They are unqualified to criticize the Chinese, the best model of protecting culture.

  • China is NOT evil, be clear ---you

the violence come from the Tibetants, not Han Chinese.you should behave yourself or go home read some history then come back announce your opinion

  • (sigh...) Nationalism and racism are at play here. Policies necessitate the Tibetan occupation due to the vast natural resources the growing HCinese economy desperately needs.

  • Empty soul, stop the violence. If you want to make yourself educated get out of CHINA. Go anywhere else and study world politics. Forget the West, just get an objective education. Free your mind. Free Tibet.

  • Free Tibet! Free Taiwan!
