A little-known Illinois law that some say can double the pain of CTA accident victims. At issue here is an old law, written back in 1945 as a way to protect the Chicago Transit Authority from fraudulent lawsuits.
Decades later, is that same law now also being used to shield the CTA from paying the claims of legitimate accident victims?
I wouldn't ASSUME - I'd EXPECT that a car will STOP at a red light and not hit the side of me. I wouldn't ASSUME - I'd EXPECT that a car will STOP at a stop sign and not hit the side of me. I'd also not assume, but EXPECT a bus in a right turn lane to TURN, and not hit the side of me. CTA should be taking more responsibilty for accidents on their services. Were the commuters hurt at Cermack to blame for ASSUMING that the truck would stay on the road? OK, truckers fault - not CTA, but assume?

Why in the world would you assume what another vehicle will or will not do? Defensive driving would have saved her....

Lets use the Bible to judge the CTA then. CTA has some crazy drivers I experience frequently. Just 2 days ago I was aboard a 62 bus toward Harlem ave. The female driver was probaly having some sort of exposive diarrhea she had to speed ALL the way from downtown to the Archer Garage. 3 elderly, 1 pregnant women, 3 kids, 1 women all fell to their seats after they got on the bus. Maybe we need to wait for a mass tragedy to happen on a CTA bus or train.
