1) Edward is actually pretty good if you level him up enough. He is supposed to be fast enough to dodge and not end up taking many hits.

2) Unequipping so the enemies don't die is a good idea. I'll keep that in mind.

As far as growth rates go, Edward's actually the best Trueblade, or best male Trueblade. In the first few levels, I unequip his weapon and let him get pummeled while Micaiah constantly Sacrifices until I run out of Herbs. She usually reaches Lv20 by Ch 5. I had Edward as a Lv15 Swordmaster with all capped stats except Magic (which capped at Lv20) by the Endgame.

Though I prefer Zihark. Just the way he looks. I always cap all my characters' stats, and they never die, even without babysitting.

@TONYRENDE Same thing always happens to me but with Meg. Try as I might, I can't level her to the point where she has any utility.
