A jouhikko primer with Pekko Käppi. Anyone wanting information about jouhikko, how to play or make or get hold of one please contact Pekko himself via www.pekkokappi.com/ as alas I myself cannot help in these matters.
Awesome! I was inspired to make one which is almost finished. I was wondering, are all three strings ever played all together? The bridge is curved yes?
I just got a jouhikko myself, actually i'm a composer singer-songwriter, and I play mostly keyboards, piano, hammered dulcimer and others, but a friend gifted me a kantele and drew me into finnish music so finally go the decision to grab a jouhikko, only a couple of days with it, so trying to look for instructional material :) ty!
The strings of jouhikko are usually made from horsehair, nowadays also from fishing line. There is a good book in English and Finnish about the jouhikko, written by Rauno Nieminen.

This is awesome. How do you use the left hand. It looks as though you are not touching the strings. Are you bending them with your hand? Thanks!
